CCNA (or CCENT+ICND2) is a well reputed certification in the area of computer networking using LAN/WAN devices. Though the certification primarily tests a candidate's ability to configure and troubleshoot Cisco IOS devices such as routers and switches, it is known for imparting strong fundamental knowledge in that area.
The latest revision, 200-125 seems to have forgotton some of the fundamental knowledge aspects of networking. For example, in ICND2 the course topics are as given below (for, say STP technology area):
1.3 Configure, verify, and troubleshoot STP protocols
1.3.a STP mode (PVST+ and RPVST+)
1.3.b STP root bridge selection
It doesn't talk about CSTP, and RSTP (stands for Classic STP and Rapid STP respectively). Even the syllabus doesn't talk about basic STP protocols like PVST and RPVT and how they are different from PVST+ and RPVST+.
Such anomalies are present in several areas of the CCNA/CCENT?ICND2 syllabus.
It appears that the syllabus was over simplified just to the point and partly takes away the essence of CCNA certification, which is based on strong understanding of the fundamentals usually required by CCNA candidates.
Hope Cisco would release an update to the syllabus.
