Old CCNA is based on technology specific objectives as below:

1. Planning and Designing
2. Implementation and Operations
3. Troubleshooting
4. Technology

New CCNA is based on skill specific objectives as below:

   1.  Describe how a network works
   2. Configure, verify and troubleshoot a switch with VLANs and interswitch communications
   3. Implement an IP addressing scheme and IP Services to meet network requirements in a medium-size Enterprise branch office network.
   4. Configure, verify, and troubleshoot basic router operation and routing on Cisco devices
   5. Explain and select the appropriate administrative tasks required for a WLAN
   6. Identify security threats to a network and describe general methods to mitigate those threats
   7. Implement, verify, and troubleshoot NAT and ACLs in a medium-size Enterprise branch office network.
   8. Implement and verify WAN links

The main difference is in the syllabus layout. There appears to be not much of a change with respect to the syllabus that one has to learn to prepare for ccna. The exam is getting tougher each time, and more emphasis is being given for practical experience.

There are different ways:
1. Open the Run box by pressing [Windows button] OR clicking start > Run.
Type msconfig and hit enter.
Click the Startup tab.
Here you see the programs that run at startup. Remove the programs that you dont want.
2. Another way:
Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information
Expand the Software Environment branch
Click Startup Programs
Remove the programs that you don't want at the startup.

Often it is possible that you get a message that a certain ocx or dll component is missing. The procedure below gives the registration procedure for the missing components:

Make sure that the file is actually located in the program installation directory (usually C:\Program Files\your program).

Register each of the DLL or OCX files that are not registered correctly. Here's how to register a file:

Right click on it
Choose "open with..."
Click "Choose program..."
Click "Other"
Find regsvr32.exe. It is in your Windows\System or Windows\system32 directory.
Click Open.
You should see a message box that says "DllRegisterServer succeeded."

Repeat the above procedure for each dll or ocx component.

Scenario: You have a DIAS connection using PPPOE. Windows 2000 Professional computer is connected to the ISP using PPPOE protocol. The network card that connects to the ISP router is assigned a static IP address given by the ISP (say 10.1.1.2) with a default gateway (say 10.1.1.1) and given subnet mask (say 255.255.255.240). You have now connected to the ISP using PPPOE protocol. You want to share your Internet connection with other computers in your office or home network without need for an external proxy server. How will you go about it?

Solution: Windows 2000 Prof. supports Internet connection sharing using PPPOE. The requirements are:
1. Two network cards
2. Your local area network (LAN)
3. Your network computers need to be Windows 98/2000/xp (not tested with other OSes).

Tasks:
1. Install PPPOE protocol on your Windows 2000 computer that is to be connected to the ISP.
2. Install drivers for both the network cards, and ensure that your LAN is working properly. (This can be tested with NetBUE protocol).
3. Ensure that both network cards are bound to the PPPOE protocol (Use properties dialog box under"Network and DialUp-Connections".
4. Right click the PPPOE adapter and choose "Sharing" tab. Enable sharing and choose the adapter connected to the office/home network.
5. Exit by choosing ok.

On the client side, you need to enable "Obtain and IP address automatically"

and make appropriate selection on Internet explorer (on client machines) to use LAN for internet connection.

The above will enable Internet Connection Sharing using PPPOE on a Windows 2000 Professional computer.

Using the .htaccess file to redirect file requests.

Directions:

.htaccess file can used to redirect users from one site to another.

You require:
FTP access to the website,
.htaccess mod-rewrite engine enabled on the webserver
Ability to chmod the files

1. In the directory you want to redirect, create (or edit if it already exists) the .htaccess file. Note the leading dot which is required.
2. In one complete line, without any additional line feeds, enter the direct command.

The redirect command has the following format:
redirect old-dir/url new-full-url
- Status is optional and may be one of the following:

permanent - (301) resource has moved permanently.
temp - (302). resource has moved temporarily.
seeother - (303) resource has been replaced.
gone - (410) resource has been permanently removed. (When this status is used the new-url argument should not be used.)

3. Save the file
4. Set read permission on the file.
Example:

RewriteEngine On
Redirect /ccna-simulator/sim.html http://routersimulator.certexams.com/ccna-simulator-download/download-network-simulator-designer.html

Note that \"RewriteEngine On\" command is essential.
You can also redirect any other file extensions. Redirection can be made to external domains also.');
