There is interesting discussion going on on the webmasterworld.com titled Is Panda actually the commercialization of the internet? at  webmasterworld.com/google/4334957.htm
MrSavage, a veteran webmaster opines that Google has fully commercialized the Internet with Panda. He further argues that Internet was born out of need to get out of commercialization (such as Walmart) stuff, and the very goal of FREE Internet has been defeated by Google.
Regarding the question that surfers may use some other search engine, it was told at least for now, Google=Internet. So there is hardly an option for other search engine for the next couple of years.

Questions being raised in webmasterworld whether Google Panda is the END of organic search. The argument says that most webmasters have enough loss of organic traffic that they had to shut down their business and get a job or resort to PPC traffic like Adwords. Where the traffic has gone? The answer is that many big websites like Wiki, About, Amazon, and CNET are ranking on first page. These are commercial brands and no small sites could afford the budgets such as these.
