Reportedly, United States has shutdown after republicans and Democrats didn't agree on the budget that envisages new medical insurance plans. It appears that the so-called shutdown is going to last for a few weeks. During this period, US will not be paying the salaries and other expenses of US Government employees, except for emergency services employees.

Similar shutdown happened 17 years before, it seems. Basically, the shutdown is a result of two opposing political parties, one party usually represented by the President and the other party sitting in the opposition but have majority in one of the houses. The budget has to be passed by both the Houses to enact.

The shutdown is likely to result in business loss to other countries as a result of non-payment of salaries, and slow down in the government operations.
